President William Ruto during a tour of Kajiado/PCS

President William Ruto is set to undertake a four-day development tour of the South Rift region from Wednesday, September 9 to Saturday, September 12, during which he is expected to inspect and commission a series of infrastructure and development projects.

A tentative schedule of the tour shows that the President will criss-cross Bomet and Kericho counties, with roads, healthcare, affordable housing and markets among the projects on his itinerary.

Ruto will begin the tour on Wednesday in Bomet, where he is scheduled to inspect ongoing works at Itembe Airstrip in Bomet town.

He will then commission the Bomet Mother and Child Hospital before commissioning roads within Bomet town and an affordable housing project.

The President is also expected to address a public rally in Bomet town before proceeding to Tegat in Bomet East.

He will later travel to Soin Sigowet in Kericho, where he is expected to inspect some projects ahead of the second day of the tour.

On Thursday, Ruto will start his engagements in Furaha, Kipkelion East, where he will launch construction of a road.

He will then visit Rungut Primary School in Buret before inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation of Kapkatet Stadium.

The President will thereafter return to Bomet, where he will commission the Kiplokyi-Chebole road in Bomet Central.

His programme will later take him to Kamureito in Sotik as he continues his tour of the region.

The third day, Friday, will see the President move through several constituencies in Kericho before returning to Bomet.

He is scheduled to visit Kokwet in Kipkelion West and Kapsoit in Ainamoi, where he will inspect the Torit Junction-Kenegut-Kapsorok road.

The road project is among several infrastructure investments expected to feature prominently during the tour as the government seeks to improve connectivity and open up rural areas.

Ruto will later fly back to Boito in Konoin, Bomet County, for further engagements.

On Saturday, the final day of the tour, the President will be in Chebunyo, Bomet, where he will inspect the Chebunyo Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market.

He will then proceed to assess ongoing construction works along the Kapkwen-Olbutyo-Siongiroi-Ndanai road corridor.

The road links several parts of the county and is expected to improve movement of people and goods while supporting economic activity in the area.

The President will conclude the four-day tour in Kericho, where he is scheduled to address residents in Kericho town.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the administration to showcase progress on projects being implemented under its development agenda while allowing residents to raise concerns over stalled or ongoing projects.

The South Rift tour comes as the government continues to push investments in roads, healthcare, affordable housing, markets and other infrastructure as part of efforts to stimulate local economies.

The projects lined up for commissioning and inspection cut across both urban and rural areas, with several roads expected to improve access between farming communities and commercial centres.
