President William Ruto on Tuesday received credentials from nine newly appointed envoys accredited to Kenya, as the country seeks to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand cooperation with other countries.
The envoys presented their credentials to Ruto during a ceremony at State House, Nairobi.
They are Jirusaya Birananda of Thailand, Joao Alfredo Fo Anjos of Brazil, Ibrahim Danlami of Nigeria, Nicholas Manolis of Cyprus and Tom Neijens of Belgium.
The others are Simone Knapp of Austria, Andreas Peschke of the European Union, Simon Juach Deng Juach of South Sudan and Wadid Benaabou of France.
Ruto said Kenya was actively engaging with other countries as part of efforts to consolidate and expand its diplomatic networks.
“We are actively engaging with other countries, consolidating and expanding our diplomatic networks, geared towards our shared prosperity,” the President said.
The accreditation of the new envoys comes as Kenya pursues closer bilateral and multilateral partnerships in areas including trade, investment, development cooperation and people-to-people relations.
In the case of Thailand, Kenya's Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Ministry has already identified agriculture, trade and investment, health, tourism, education, culture, development cooperation, the blue economy and maritime cooperation as priority areas for strengthening the partnership.
Kenya and Thailand are also preparing to mark 60 years of diplomatic relations in 2027.
Birananda had presented copies of her credentials and the former ambassador's letter of recall to Kenya's Chief of Protocol in July, ahead of the formal presentation to the President.
The presentation of credentials formally marks the envoys' accreditation to Kenya and sets the stage for them to undertake their diplomatic responsibilities.
