The East Africa Law Society has criticized President William Ruto’s remarks on foreign small scale traders, saying they have caused anxiety among many East African nationals living in the country. The society further welcomed Kenya’s clarification that foreigners with valid documents can live and work in the country, urging the government to maintain the position consistently. It also called on Kenya to uphold the EAC Treaty and Common Market Protocol, which guarantee the free movement of goods, labour and people across member states.
