President William Ruto arrives to inspect ongoing construction of Ngong Vet Affordable Housing Project in Kajiado North, September 7, 2026. /PCSPresident William Ruto on Monday inspected the ongoing construction of the Ngong Vet Affordable Housing Project in Kajiado North, where the 1,910-unit development has reached 60 per cent completion. The project is part of the government’s wider Affordable Housing Programme, which Ruto has positioned as both a response to Kenya’s housing deficit and a source of employment and economic opportunity. The government says the Ngong project has created jobs for about 1,500 young people, reflecting the President’s emphasis on linking housing construction to employment. Ruto has said the national programme is currently delivering 300,000 housing units across the country, alongside other developments including student hostels and markets. He said the programme was changing Kenya’s skyline while providing opportunities for Kenyans. “For nearly 40 years, affordable housing was written and spoken about but little was done. I made a commitment that it must take off and, today, the evidence is visible across the country,” Ruto said. He added: “We are delivering homes while creating jobs and expanding opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Kenyans.” The Ngong project is part of the Ruto administration’s effort to translate national housing agenda into developments targeting urban and peri-urban communities.
