National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has called on government agencies to take action against traders illegally importing sugar into the country. Speaking in Kakamega, Wetang’ula said the imports were hurting local sugar mills by denying them a fair market. He noted that President William Ruto had fulfilled his promise to revive sugar factories in Western Kenya, but warned that illegal imports could undermine the progress and prevent the mills from becoming profitable and sustainable.
