Principal Secretary in the State Department for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Kere Imbunya, has urged public servants, particularly the youth, to remain focused on their targets and pursue their goals with determination.

Imbunya spoke at Harambee House after staff organised a surprise celebration following her conferment of the title of Associate Professor of Education in Curriculum Studies, specialising in Curriculum and Instruction, by Kaimosi Friends University.

The PS said the achievement should not merely be viewed as a moment of celebration but as an opportunity for mentorship, reflection and inspiration for public servants to demonstrate that nothing should stand in the way of their aspirations.

“It is not a moment for celebration, but a moment for mentorship and reflection. Public servants should learn and witness that nothing can stand between them and their targets and goals,” she said.

Imbunya described the conferment as a communal achievement, saying the recognition had renewed her determination to do more, improve her performance and, above all, strengthen human capital development across the country.

She noted that building a futuristic and effective public service requires every public servant to acquire the necessary skills and take personal responsibility for driving the transformation agenda.

“To achieve a futuristic public service, every public servant must acquire the skills needed to lead that journey. Everyone must play their part if we are to achieve the Singapore dream and effectively handle the challenges that come with it,” she said.

The celebrations at Harambee House were marked by emotional and joyous moments, with Prof. Imbunya visibly moved as staff danced and celebrated her achievement.

At one point, the PS had to hold back tears of joy as the celebrations spilled from her office into the corridors of Harambee House, transforming the normally busy government offices into a scene of jubilation.

The staff described the academic milestone as a source of inspiration and a testament to the importance of continuous learning, professional development and perseverance in public service.
