Crime sceneA 46-year-old police officer was found dead in
bushes at Kagira in Kabete, Nairobi county, after a man reportedly told police
that he had killed his wife and dumped her body in the area.
A hammer and a Maasai sword were recovered at the scene and kept as exhibits.
They are believed to have been used in her brutal murder.
The incident was reported at Kabetе police station on Thursday, September 3, after the police received information from a person who claimed to have killed his wife.
Police officers from Kabete police station responded and conducted a search in Kagira, where they recovered the body of an adult woman.
Police said the woman had visible injuries to the head, suspected to have been inflicted with a blunt object, which is a hammer.
She also had injuries on her left hand, while marks on her legs suggested she may have been tightly bound with a rope.
Identification documents found during a search of the body, including a police identification card which identified the deceased as Sergeant Gladys Nyaguthe Kirika, police aged 46.
Kirika was attached to Subuiga police station in Buuri West subcounty, Meru county.
Scene-of-crime personnel processed the scene before the body was removed to PCEA Kikuyu Funeral Home, where it awaits further examination.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing.
The said husband had to be rescued by the locals and police as he attempted to die by suicide.
He had called police to report the murder and later went to attempt to hang himself in the house, police said adding he had been admitted to hospital in a stable condition.
There was no one in the house then.
Police said they had not established the motive of the murder and attempted suicide.
They however suspect domestic disputes to be the cause.
Suicide has been one of the leading causes of death in the country.
Officials say such cases are also attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.
Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
And a 20-year-old woman drowned while fetching water from a stream in Kadibo, Kisumu county, police have reported.
The incident occurred on, September 2 at about 9.30pm in Kanyakraro village, Katieno West sublocation, Kathiore location, police said.
Police who visited the scene found the body of Winny Ayugi, after members of the public had retrieved it from Orecha stream.
Witnesses said Ayugi had gone to the stream to fetch water and is believed to have accidentally drowned.
Police processed the scene and removed the body to the Ahero County Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
The body had no visible external injuries, according to police.
Elsewhere, the remains of a 68-year-old woman who went missing about four weeks ago were discovered in a thicket in Ikutha subcounty, Kitui county.
The human skeleton was found in Ngwate village, within a parcel of land belonging to a local resident.
Police officers who visited the scene found scattered human bones, female clothing and a bag containing medication and an identification card bearing the name Kongu Mathuka Ngulo, 68.
Family members positively identified the clothes and identification documents as belonging to Kongu, who they said had been unwell for some time before disappearing from her home about four weeks ago.
Efforts by relatives to trace her whereabouts had reportedly been unsuccessful.
The scene was processed, documented and photographed before the remains were collected and moved to Mutomo mortuary, pending further identification and examination.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death.
