The World Meteorological Organization says there is a nearly 100 percent chance that El Niño will persist through February next year. WMO says the weather phenomenon is expected to strengthen to very strong levels before peaking towards the end of this year, with impacts extending into 2027. The agency warns of increased risks of droughts, floods and other extreme weather events globally.
