Congolese music star Fally Ipupa landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Thursday evening. A vibrant Kenyan reception met the singer as he stepped out of the arrivals terminal.
The celebrated artist is in the country for his highly anticipated concert this weekend.
A traditional Maasai dance troupe led the warm welcoming ceremony. The dancers were draped in colourful shúkàs, elaborate beaded necklaces, and traditional headpieces. They surrounded the rhumba star and sang traditional welcoming chants under the night sky.
A Vibrant Welcome at JKIA
Fally Ipupa soaked in the energetic reception at the airport concourse. He wore a striking red bandana wrapped around his head, dark sunglasses, a brown sweater, and gold chains. A dancer wearing a feather headpiece guided him forward through the gathering.
During the welcome, the dancers presented the star with a traditional walking stick. Fally Ipupa held the stick, nodded, and smiled to the rhythm of the performance. Journalists and fans gathered around to capture the moment. The entourage then escorted him to a waiting luxury motorcade.
The superstar spoke briefly to the press after his arrival. Fally said he was happy to be in Kenya. He noted that he loves the country, the local food, and the music. He also stated that he wants his fans to go crazy during the upcoming show.
“I am happy to be in Kenya. I want fans to go crazy and I love Kenya and the food and the music,” he told journalists.
From Kinshasa to Global Stages
Fally Ipupa was born Faustin Ipupa Nsimba on 14 December 1977 in Kinshasa. He began his musical journey in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He joined Koffi Olomide’s Quartier Latin International in 1999. He worked as a singer, songwriter, and musical director before starting his solo career in 2006.
His debut solo album, Droit Chemin, was an instant commercial success.
The album became a major success, reportedly selling more than 100,000 copies within its first month and earning gold certification.
He followed this success with several highly acclaimed albums, including Arsenal de Belles Mélodies and Tokooos. These projects established him as one of the most influential musicians on the continent.
A Massive Performance Awaits
The grand concert will take place on Saturday, 5 September 2026, at Uhuru Gardens on Lang'ata Road. The event is organised by Hams Prod and will run from 3:00 PM to 3:00 AM. Fally Ipupa is scheduled to deliver a massive performance set lasting 2 hours and 40 minutes.
The supporting lineup features South African Amapiano stars Kamo Mphela and Nomfundo Khumalo, who have also touched down in Nairobi. They will perform alongside DJ Maphorisa, Joe Mfalme, DJ Ice, and the Kenyan band Kodong Klan.
