President William Ruto has commissioned the expansion of the Rombo Clusters (Kisioki) Irrigation Development Project in Kajiado South, Kajiado County.
The Sh221 million project is part of the broader Rombo clusters which cover schemes like Kisioki, Matepes, Esosian, and Oltepesi
The wider Rombo Clusters scheme targets thousands of acres and households in the region, focusing on reducing reliance on rain-fed agriculture, cutting out exploitative brokers, and boosting production of food and horticultural crops such as tomatoes, maize, beans, and watermelon.
“We have expanded irrigated land from 2,983 acres to 5,500 acres across four schemes, giving thousands of farmers reliable access to water for food production throughout the year,” Ruto said.

Ruto said the expanded project will strengthen food security for more than 6,000 households, create direct employment for over 6,000 families and support nearly 30,000 indirect jobs.
“Farmers will now be able to expand high-value horticulture, food crops and fruit-tree production, turning agriculture into a more reliable source of income and opportunity,” he stated
