ODM party leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has received a delegation from the Senate Energy Committee at his Nairobi residence as he continues recuperating at home following a recent hospital visit.
The delegation comprised Senate Energy Committee Chairperson Senator William Kisang, Vice-Chairperson Senator Beatrice Ogolla and former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo, who paid a courtesy call on the ODM leader on Thursday morning.
Oburu said the delegation visited him to check on his wellbeing and that the meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the work of the Senate committee and progress on the legislative agenda.
“They paid a courtesy call to check on my wellbeing as I continue resting at home, leading to a productive update on the committee meetings, advancing our legislative agenda, and strengthening policy oversight in the energy sector,” Oburu said in a statement.
The Siaya Senator said the discussions centred on the committee's ongoing work, legislation and policy oversight in the energy sector.
“Collaborative leadership remains key to driving sustainable development and accountability across our nation,” Oburu said.
On Tuesday, Oburu dismissed reports that he has been readmitted to Nairobi Hospital.
The Siaya Senator said he was discharged from the hospital on Monday morning and is now recovering at his Nairobi home.
“Those people saying I have been readmitted, have they talked to me? They have not looked for me,” he said. Oburu said that during his admission, many leaders, including Cabinet secretaries, visited him.
“I have received so many visitors. Cabinet secretaries like Opiyo Wandayi, the Energy CS, visited me,” he stated.
There were reports that the veteran politician had been readmitted to the facility, with those visiting him reportedly restricted to close family members.
The meeting comes weeks after Oburu stepped down as chairperson of the Senate Energy Committee on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang was subsequently elected to take over as chairperson, while Nominated Senator Beatrice Ogolla was elected vice-chairperson.
Oburu, however, retained his membership of the committee, allowing him to continue participating in its activities despite relinquishing the leadership position.
The latest meeting also comes amid continued public interest in Oburu's health following a recent hospital visit.
The ODM leader has sought to dispel reports and speculation that he was seriously ill or had been admitted to hospital for an extended period.
Oburu previously said he was in good health and had only made a brief visit to hospital for a routine medical check-up before returning home to Nairobi to rest.
The senator dismissed reports circulating on social media and elsewhere claiming that he had been seriously ill, admitted to hospital or placed under strict visitor restrictions.
He said his condition did not warrant the alarm that had been generated by the reports and reassured the public that he was recovering at home.
Oburu also sought to normalise the circumstances surrounding his hospital visit, saying illness was part of the human experience.
“The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person,” he said.
His decision to host the Senate delegation at his Nairobi residence provides a fresh indication of his continued engagement with political and legislative affairs while resting at home.
