Kenyan comedian and content creator Eddie Butita has asked Kenyans to contribute KSh100 million so he can turn down an alleged KSh100 million offer from a politician seeking his endorsement.
Butita made the remarks in a video shared with his followers on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. He claimed that an unnamed politician had approached him with the offer in exchange for publicly supporting and praising them.
“Kuna politician ameniapproach anataka kunipatia KSh100 million nimsupport.”
Butita said he was reluctant to accept the alleged offer because he did not want to lose the respect of his fans or be viewed as a sellout.

He then turned to his followers with an unusual proposal: raise the same KSh100 million so that he would have a reason to reject the politician’s money.

The comedian joked that Kenyans could help him raise the money through a Paybill number.
“Mimi sitaki kupoteza respect yenu, sitaki kuwa sellout, so mnichangie hio KSh100 million ndio nisichukue hio ya politician.”
Butita suggested that the fundraising could take place over two weeks. According to his remarks, the politician was allegedly expected to make the payment the following week.
His comments have sparked reactions online, with some Kenyans treating the proposal as a joke while others questioned whether he would actually reject such a large amount of money.
Politician remains unnamed
Butita did not reveal the identity of the politician he claims approached him. He also did not provide evidence to confirm that the alleged KSh100 million offer was made independently.
The comments come as political activity begins to attract increased attention ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election. Public figures, including comedians, musicians and digital creators, command large audiences and can potentially influence how political messages reach the public.
Butita has previously spoken about the relationship between celebrities and politics. In August, he said people should respect different political opinions and experiences rather than judge others for their choices.
The comedian has also previously found himself at the centre of political discussions. During the 2024 Finance Bill protests, his decision not to immediately take a public position drew criticism from some Kenyans.
For now, the identity of the politician remains unknown, while it is also unclear whether Butita intends to establish the proposed fundraising drive.
