The government has announced seven measures to prepare for the anticipated October to December El Niño rains, warning of above-normal rainfall across most parts of Kenya. The rains could cause flooding, deaths, displacement, disease outbreaks and damage to infrastructure and livelihoods. The government says priority will be given to flood-prone and landslide areas, while drainage systems will be unclogged and desilted, with evacuation plans also being strengthened.
