Kenyan digital content creator Commentator 254 has sparked widespread discussion online after responding to a follower who questioned his recent car upgrade. The YouTuber recently purchased a brand-new Peugeot SUV, moving on from his previous Mazda Demio. He celebrated the milestone on social media by stating that nothing is impossible.
However, his celebration attracted some unexpected advice. A fan under the username @emilywilliams7978 left a detailed comment on the purchase, urging the creator to seek professional financial advice before committing to such an expensive asset.
The Fan’s Financial Advice
The comment, which Commentator 254 later shared on his social media stories, warned of the financial risks of upgrading cars early in a career. The fan expressed concern that the new vehicle could become a financial burden.
"The Demio was honestly okay for you, but this upgrade might end up hurting you financially in the long run," the follower wrote.
The fan also cautioned that online fame can be fleeting. She pointed out that audiences change over time.
"Remember, your audience is also getting older, and the next generation may not necessarily be interested in cooking shows or udaku," she warned.
Warning of Past Creator Struggles
To illustrate the potential risks, the follower referenced other prominent Kenyan content creators who have publicly faced financial or personal challenges after their online peaks.
"Play around with YouTube money if you want, but be careful you might end up kama Alex and Desagu, and honestly, that’s not a good place to be," she noted.
This comparison refers to actor Alex Mathenge and comedian Henry Desagu. Earlier in 2025, Desagu’s family launched a KSh 1 million fundraiser after he battled depression and alcoholism.
Meanwhile, Mathenge announced his exit from social media, offering to sell his pages for KSh 500,000 following professional struggles.
The commenter concluded with a final plea: "Enjoy your success, but don't let the money make you forget to build wealth. That car can wait; investments won't."
Instead of ignoring or deleting the unsolicited warning, Commentator 254 decided to share a screenshot of the message on his official Instagram story. He reacted to the advice with humour, adding a brief caption in Swahili.
"Wale advisors wamenifikia," he wrote. This translates to "the advisers have caught up with me." He added a laughing emoji to show he took the advice in stride.
