Tobacco-leaf production is declining globally, but Africa is bucking the trend. A new the WHO analysis shows global production fell by nearly 19 percent between 2012 and 2024, while Africa’s increased by almost nine percent. The continent produced more than 639,000 tonnes of tobacco leaf last year, accounting for about 11 percent of global production. Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Mozambique and Uganda are the leading producers.
