Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba addressing journalists at Parliament Media Centre on August 31 /DOUGLAS OKIDDYGithunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has threatened to leave the UDA party over what she terms selective application of the law against leaders accused of making inciting remarks.
Speaking to a local radio station, the MP questioned why little action has been taken against pro-government leaders accused of making inflammatory statements.
She singled out Nominated MP Josphat Wainaina over alleged remarks warning of the eviction of a community from the Rift Valley if it does not support President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.
Wamuchomba warned that she would lead like-minded leaders out of government if Wainaina is not arrested by tomorrow.
She also criticised Wainaina for allegedly making the remarks despite witnessing the loss of lives and property during the 2007/08 post-election violence.
“Wainaina is one of those who witnessed the chaos that led to the loss of life and property during the 2007/08 post-election violence. He therefore should be the last person to utter hateful remarks directed at the community.”
She also condemned Health CS Aden Duale over recent remarks she termed hateful and directed at the Kikuyu community.
Wamuchomba said despite calling him out over the remarks, the CS showed no remorse and instead mocked her, referring to her as a ‘small girl’.
The MP also revealed the tough experience of serving some leaders like her have been going through government, saying some leaders are enduring harsh treatment for ‘the sake of development’ in their constituencies.
She likened her stay in government to ‘that of a bride sitting on thorns’, adding that the bride could be enduring the pain because she is pursuing something.
“We have been pleading that our projects be completed, but some of us have run out of patience.”
“I’m not in this position because I wish to be. I’m here so that I’m able to get projects in my constituency finalised, so that in the long run my constituents will not blame me.”
“I want some roads in my constituency to be completed and unfinished hospitals completed,” she said.
