Kitui South MP Rachel Nyamai has urged residents of Kitui County to support President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
She asked the residents of the county to resist what she termed attempts by opposition politicians to undermine the government’s development agenda.
Nyamai said Kitui had benefited significantly from a range of national government development initiatives. She urged residents to embrace and take ownership of the projects for the benefit of local communities.
“I urge the people of Kitui County not to be confused by politicians aspiring for leadership who ask for their support while promising to initiate development projects only after they are elected,” Nyamai noted.
She said supporting such leaders woud amount to an unfathomable gamble because there was no guarantee that the leaders will ever be elected to office.
Nyamai said residents should instead take advantage of opportunities presented by ongoing government projects and support initiatives already being implemented in the county.`
The MP spoke in Kitui town on Friday when she led the Kitui UDA caucus in inspecting the construction of 166 affordable housing units at Kwa Ngindu.
The project is currently 75 per cent complete.
Nyamai, who chairs the Kitui UDA caucus, said the project had already created employment opportunities and stimulated economic activity in Kitui town.
She added that, once completed, it would provide residents with access to decent and affordable housing.
Nyamai was exited that Kitui had not been left behind in the national government’s affordable housing programme, which is being implemented across the country.
“More than 200,000 affordable housing units have been built across Kenya. And, President Ruto has not forgotten Kitui County. He made an effort to establish this project, with more than 160 units in Kitui town,” she said.
Commission on Revenue Allocation commissioner Ben Muasya also hailed the project, saying it had created jobs and increased the circulation of money within the local economy.
Muasya said more than 200 young people from Kitui County had secured employment during the construction period, while local businesses had benefited from supplying construction materials and other services.
“This is not just a building. It is a demonstration of how job opportunities are created to our people while businesses have also benefited from the provision of supplies,” Muasya said.
State House Director of Coordination, Boniface Musambi, said the government was committed to ensuring that the project was completed by the end of December.
Musambi also encouraged residents of Kitui Central to visit the site, familiarise themselves with the housing units and learn about the process of acquiring them once they become available.
