Detectives in Rachuonyo East, Homa Bay County, are investigating the recovery of the decomposing body of an unidentified woman from River Awach.
The body, believed to be that of a woman aged about 32, was discovered floating in the river in the Nyawangi area on Thursday.
The woman’s body was in an advanced state of decomposition. Police noted that her left leg was broken, she had bruises on her left hand and her right leg was tied with a rope.
The circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, with police treating the incident as a suspected murder.
The scene was processed, documented and photographed before the body was taken to the Rachuonyo South Sub-County Hospital mortuary.
A post-mortem examination is expected to establish the cause and circumstances of the woman’s death as investigations continue to establish her identity and how she ended up in the river.
In Kiengu, Meru County, police have launched investigations after a 65-year-old man was found dead at Mwomwere Village in Kajoo Sub-location.
Francis Gituma Kaberia was found lying on the ground on Thursday after his son was informed by a neighbour that his father was unconscious.
Police officers visited the scene and found Kaberia’s body lying on the ground.
Blood was reportedly oozing from his nostrils and mouth, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
The scene was documented and processed by Crime Scene Investigation officers before the body was moved to Nyambene Hospital mortuary.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death as investigations continue.
Elsewhere, police in Mwea, Embu County, have launched investigations after a 28-year-old man was found dead in a pool of blood along a road in Ivari Village.
The body of Julius Mulili was discovered on Thursday morning along the Riakanau-Karaba marrum road.
Police said Mulili had two deep cuts on the left side of his neck, which were suspected to have been inflicted using a sharp object.
His clothes were found scattered around the scene, although investigators reported that there were no visible signs of a struggle.
The motive for the killing remains unknown.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
In Masaba North, Nyamira County, police arrested two family members after a 38-year-old man was found dead inside his house days after he was allegedly assaulted following a land dispute.
The body of Evans Mogere Nyakundi was discovered at his home in Nyasore Village, Nyasore Sub-location, on Thursday.
A team of police officers visited the scene and found Nyakundi lying on his back inside the house.
Police reported that the deceased had a whitish discharge around his mouth and visible injuries on his face, head and both hands.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Nyakundi was allegedly assaulted at his homestead on Monday, August 24, following a dispute over land. The alleged assault was not reported to police at the time.
Police identified the two family members allegedly linked to the incident as the deceased’s mother and his brother.
Nyakundi, who lived at the homestead and engaged in small-scale farming, reportedly sought medical treatment on Tuesday and Wednesday following the alleged assault.
The two suspects were arrested and are being held at Keroka Police Station as investigations continue.
Police processed, documented and photographed the scene before the body was moved to St Catherine Ichuni Mission Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
