Traders across the country are set to shut their businesses today and demonstrate against rising taxes and the new customs valuation benchmark. They want the minimum benchmark for consolidated cargo reduced from 3.2 million shillings to 2.5 million, saying the additional seven-hundred-thousand shillings is too costly. The traders vow to continue the strike until their concerns are addressed. KRA, however, maintains the benchmark is necessary and is not a new tax.
