Kenyan content creator Pritty Vishy has hit back at online critics who questioned her choice of musical inspiration. The social media personality, who recently launched her professional deejaying career, ignited a fresh online debate after revealing that no Kenyan deejay currently inspires her.
Instead, she named South African artist DJ Cyans as her primary role model.
Netizens quickly criticised the rookie deejay for overlooking local talent. Taking to her Instagram stories on 27 August 2026, Vishy defended her artistic independence with short, sharp rebuttals, calling out what she described as the hypocrisy of her detractors.
‘Pritty is whoever she thinks she is’
In her first story post, Vishy addressed the backlash directly, describing the wave of sarcasm and mockery she received as crazy. She made it clear that her choice of inspiration is entirely her own, regardless of public opinion.
Vishy clarified that her preference for DJ Cyans does not mean she ignores local talent. However, she remained unapologetic about her creative choices.
The Amapiano Double Standard
In a subsequent slide, Vishy defended her comments against accusations that she was disrespecting local industry figures. She asserted that Kenyan deejays "are good at what they do" and did not need to change their styles to suit her.
She then highlighted what she views as a double standard among local music consumers, accusing critics of hypocrisy for supporting foreign genres while demanding that she only look to local deejays.
"I love me some Kenyan DJ's I swear... that's why I said they don't need to change anything to inspire me💯they are good at what they do📌I didn't abuse or shame anyone... y'all should just lemme be inspired by who inspires what I want...just like y'all love Kenyan songs but will go ALL OUT FOR AFROBEAT AND AMAPIANO EVENTS AND ARTISTS....hypocrite."
This latest controversy follows a turbulent start to Vishy’s music career. She first announced her transition from content creation to deejaying in July 2026. Her early online mixes received mixed reviews, and her debut live set ended in tears after being plagued by venue-related technical failures.
Following heavy professional criticism from industry figures, Vishy briefly announced her retirement from deejaying on 8 August 2026, stating she was choosing mental peace. However, her break was short-lived.
She returned with a new mix on 18 August and, in a bid to silence critics, enrolled at Nairobi’s Red Berry DJ Academy on 25 August 2026 to undergo formal technical training.
