Public universities in the country are at a crossroads, forced to register first-year students without official guidance on tuition fees. At the University of Eldoret, 8,000 students have been admitted despite only 2,000 accommodation spaces. The university’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Thomas Cheruiyot, said the new student funding model will continue to apply to other students as the government awaits the rollout of the new system. Universities are still awaiting fee guidelines.
