The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) is now proposing a ban on protests near critical infrastructure including State House, Parliament and Judiciary to protect lives. The commission’s chair Claris Ogangah explains that although the right to picket and demonstrate remains protected, a worrying grey area has emerged in which criminal elements hijack otherwise genuine protests for their own gain.
