On the radar

The Kenya Meteorological Department is set to release the October–December 2026 short-rains forecast during the 13th National Climate Outlook Forum in Nairobi.

The outlook is expected to provide a detailed assessment of rainfall patterns across the country, with preliminary projections indicating above-average rainfall in about 80 per cent of Kenya amid prevailing El Niño conditions.

The forecast comes as regional climate agencies warn of wetter-than-normal conditions across the Greater Horn of Africa, with increased risks of flooding, landslides, crop losses and damage to infrastructure.

The forum will be held in Westlands, Nairobi, from 2:30 pm.
