Female lawmakers have strongly condemned remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua suggesting that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Murkomen’s wife should be returned to the Mount Kenya region because she is “their child.” They criticised the remarks as tribalistic, saying women do not choose where or which community they marry into. The lawmakers urged Kenyans to reject divisive politics based on gender and ethnicity. They spoke at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.
