The government has cut the price of a 50-kilogramme bag of subsidised fertiliser from 2,500 to 2,000 shillings, while certified maize seed will now be sold at half the previous price. Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe says the measures are aimed at helping farmers recover from drought, lower production costs and boost food security. The government will subsidise about 40 million kilogrammes of maize seed at an estimated cost of six billion shillings.
