Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna /HANDOUTNairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement will hold a strategic retreat this weekend to review its progress and plan its path towards the election.
The gathering comes as the breakaway ODM faction prepares to pursue legal options over the registration of its party.
Leaders will check in at Stoni Athi Hotel in Machakos county for the retreat, which begins on Sunday.
The sessions are designed to assess the movement’s activities so far, map out future rallies and refine tactics in response to recent attacks at public events.
A technical team that has operated behind the scenes on messaging and key thematic areas such as the economy will also deliver updates on its progress.
“Where did we succeed? Where did we fail? What are the issues? Obviously, on top of the list is our discussion of the issues that happened in Homa Bay,” Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka said.
“How are we going to react to it? What is going to happen?”
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi said the retreat will give Linda Mwananchi leaders space to reflect and prepare for the next phase of public engagements.
“We will receive an update on the progress of the technical team. We will hear where they have reached so far with their work,” he said.
Linda Mwananchi, led by Sifuna, the former ODM secretary general, has already toured at least 16 counties. The campaign is scheduled to move to Meru next weekend.
Before that push, the team plans a series of meetings across Nairobi constituencies to deepen its local presence.
The Meru rally follows weeks after the movement faced chaos in Homa Bay, where Sifuna and his allies encountered disruptions.
Earlier stops included Mombasa, Nakuru, Vihiga, Kisumu, Machakos, Kiambu and Kisii. In July, the campaign reached Taita Taveta, Trans Nzoia and Bungoma.
The most recent rally took place in Homa Bay on August 16. The effort began in Busia on February 8, followed by Kajiado, Kakamega, Narok and Nairobi.
Meanwhile, the movement is preparing to take legal action over the registration of LINDA.
Osotsi said the movement maintains that the name had been reserved in advance and that it had sought details regarding another party said to have been registered under the same name.
