Interior Principal Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Saturday joined Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo in Oldonyiro, Isiolo County, for a women’s empowerment and student association funds drive. 
The event brought together groups representing more than 2,000 women and supporting 300 college and university students from Oldonyiro Sub-County. 
Murkomen also engaged community representatives from Isiolo and neighbouring counties on security and development priorities during the event. 
He said the meeting provided an opportunity to review gains made through security operations targeting livestock theft, trafficking routes, illicit alcohol and drug outlets, and poaching. 
"We reviewed the gains made through operations targeting livestock theft, trafficking routes, illicit alcohol and drug outlets, and poaching,” Murkomen said. 
He said the Government was taking further measures to strengthen security in the area, including improving policing and bringing administrative units closer to communities. 
"To further beef up security, we are strengthening policing, bringing administrative units closer, and improving workplace and housing conditions for officers,” Murkomen said. 
He said the Government was also coordinating with other agencies to address development priorities affecting communities in the region. 
These priorities include roads and bridges, electricity extension, land settlement, youth employment and improved Technical and Vocational Education and Training facilities. 
Murkomen also highlighted the importance of improving access to Government services, including national identification documents.
“Enhanced access to Government services such as IDs is also key, enabling more young people to secure opportunities and exercise their civic rights,” he said. 
The event was attended by National Police Service Secretary, Administration, Bernice Lemedeket, Oldonyiro Ward MCA David Lemantile, members of the Memir Loshon Community Group and the Somali Pastoralist Community Group, among others.
