A form three student died on Wednesday night after being attacked by thugs at her parents’ home at Kefinco estate in Kakamega town.
Laura Flora was asleep in her bedroom when the assailants struck.
The thugs gained access into the compound by jumping over the perimeter wall before entering her bedroom by opening the door using a rope.
They hit her in the head with a blunt object before tying her hands from behind and leaving her unconscious.
The late Flora was a student at Moi Girls’ Vokoli High School in Vihiga county.
They broke into her parents’ bedroom and robbed them of their phones before taking off.
Her father, James Owich, said the thugs demanded money from him, failure to which they would kill his daughter.
“I told them we didn’t have money apart from the phones we had surrendered to them. They took off, and when I rushed into my daughter’s bedroom, I found her unconscious with her hands tied from behind,” he said.
“I hurriedly untied her and carried her to the vehicle to rush her to hospital, but she was pronounced dead 15 minutes later,” he said.
Residents called for thorough investigations to uncover those behind the heinous attack.
Dr Stanley Omuterema, a resident, said that insecurity, which had improved in the estate, has deteriorated recently.
“We experienced insecurity in this area before, and it had subsided, but the youths seem to have returned,” he said.
Omuterema called for intensified police patrols to ensure the safety of residents.
