President William Ruto has congratulated Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election, describing his victory as a sign of the confidence the people of Zambia have placed in his leadership.
In a message addressed to Hichilema, Ruto said the Kenyan government and people welcomed his victory following the August 13, 2026 election.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend my warmest congratulations to you and the people of the Republic of Zambia on the election held on 13th August, 2026, and on your re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia,” Ruto said.
Ruto described Hichilema's victory as resounding and decisive, saying it reflected his commitment to Zambia's advancement.
“Your resounding and decisive victory is a testament to your unwavering dedication, perseverance and commitment to the advancement of Zambia,” Ruto said.
The President said the result was also an affirmation of the trust and confidence that Zambians had placed in Hichilema's leadership.
“It is, above all, an affirmation of the trust and confidence that the people of Zambia have placed in your visionary leadership towards advancing the nation's development and prosperity,” he said.
Hichilema's re-election comes as Zambia prepares for the continuation of his leadership for another term.
Ruto said Kenya attaches great importance to its relationship with Zambia, noting that the two countries have developed cooperation over the years.
“Kenya holds its relations with the Republic of Zambia in high esteem,” Ruto said.
He said the two countries have built cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
“Over the years, our two countries have fostered deep and enduring cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels,” he said.
Ruto further described Zambia as both a brotherly nation and an important partner for Kenya in the region.
“Kenya regards Zambia not only as a brotherly nation, but also as a valuable partner and ally in the region,” he said.
The President also expressed his intention to continue working with Hichilema to strengthen relations between the two countries.
“Dear Brother, I look forward to continuing to work closely with you to further solidify and broaden the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two nations,” Ruto said.
He wished Hichilema success as he begins his second term and expressed hope for continued peace, unity and prosperity in Zambia.
“I wish you every success in your second term in office and continued peace, unity and prosperity for the people of Zambia,” Ruto said.
Ruto's message comes as Kenya and Zambia maintain relations through bilateral and multilateral cooperation. The Kenyan President said he looked forward to further strengthening the ties between the two countries under Hichilema's continued leadership.
