Four years into President William Ruto’s administration, youth unemployment remains one of Kenya’s biggest economic challenges, despite government interventions aimed at creating jobs and expanding opportunities for young people. Through programmes such as Kazi Mtandaoni, the Hustler Fund, Affordable Housing Programme and Kazi Majuu, the government has sought to create employment and income opportunities for the youth. However, millions of young Kenyans, including university graduates, continue to struggle to secure stable jobs amid a saturated formal labour market and growing reliance on informal work. As the administration marks four years in office, the challenge now is turning job creation pledges into sustainable opportunities that can absorb Kenya’s rapidly growing young workforce.
