Bradley Marongo, popularly known as the Gen Z Goliath, has become a household name in Kenya. Standing at a staggering 8 feet 2 inches tall, his height has brought both fame and unique challenges. In a recent interview on the Mic Cheque Podcast, Marongo shared the high cost of his footwear and the lengths he goes to find a fit.
From Trailer Tyres to Luxury Fits
Life was not always easy for the viral sensation. Before his rise to fame, Marongo struggled to find any shoes that could accommodate his size. He revealed that he used to wear footwear made from recycled vehicle parts.
"It was made from the tyre of a trailer," Bradley said. These improvised shoes were necessary because no shop in Kenya stocked his size. He often had to walk long distances in these heavy, custom-made rubber soles while working as a bus conductor.
Now that he has gained international attention, Marongo’s wardrobe has seen a significant upgrade. However, the cost of his comfort is remarkably high. He currently owns four pairs of shoes, all of which are custom-made by a specialist designer.
The price of a single pair is enough to shock many.

This high price is due to the vast amount of leather and specialised craftsmanship required to build shoes for a man of his stature.
An American Import
Perhaps the most surprising revelation was his ownership of a world-famous brand. Marongo revealed that he owns a pair of Nike Air Force shoes. Because of his size, these could not be sourced locally.
The shoes were imported specifically for him to ensure he had the same stylish options as anyone else. He noted that he now has different colours to choose from, a luxury he did not have just a few years ago.

Everything in Bradley’s life must be tailored to his height. Beyond his shoes, he uses a custom-made bed and mattress. He explained that standard furniture is simply too small for him to rest comfortably.
"The bed is custom, I use a mattress also customed," he explained. He also mentioned that he has adjusted his home fittings, such as his shower, to ensure he does not have to stoop while bathing.
Marongo’s story is one of transformation. He moved from the rural areas of Vihiga to the busy streets of Nairobi. After a video of him during the national protests went viral, he transitioned from a conductor to a content creator and actor. 
He has already participated in international film projects, including a production for Netflix.
