Nearly eight in ten Kenyan children reaching late primary school cannot read proficiently, according to a new national assessment. The report says 79 percent lack adequate reading skills, while 19 percent of primary-school-aged children are out of school. Sixty percent of Grade Four pupils also failed to read a Grade Three-level text.
