The National Assembly has passed the Plant Protection Bill, 2025, seeking to strengthen Kenya’s fight against plant pests and diseases and safeguard food security. The law will replace the outdated Plant Protection Act and establish a modern, science-based framework for plant health. It formally designates KEPHIS as Kenya’s National Plant Protection Organisation, strengthening border surveillance, quarantine controls and seed certification while supporting safe agricultural exports.
