Kenya has been challenged to ensure its growing investments in infrastructure, energy, manufacturing and technology translate into jobs and opportunities for local engineers, rather than increasing reliance on foreign expertise. Speaking moments after he was declared President-elect of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya, Engineer Harrison Keter said the country must deliberately leverage major development projects to build local engineering capacity and nurture home-grown talent. Keter, who will serve for the 2026–2028 term, also called on engineers to play a more active role in shaping national policy through innovation, professionalism and integrity.
