Recently, a poignant clip from Mr Seed’s mother, Teresa Auma’s memorial mass has resurfaced online. The clip was shared by Mr Seed on TikTok. It features fellow artist Bahati sharing the profound impact she had on his life.
Teresa passed away on 30 August 2024 in Nairobi after a long illness.
A Home for the Motherless
The video captures an emotional Bahati describing how he became part of the family. He initially visited Mr Seed's home for what was supposed to be a short stay. However, he ended up moving in permanently.
Bahati recalled the moment he arrived. "When I moved to Mr Seed’s home. He didn’t tell his mother that I had gone to live, she thought I had gone for a visit and she embraced me," he told the congregation.
He explained that she did not treat him as a guest but as her own son. This support allowed him to complete his secondary education under her roof.
In the clip, Bahati expressed a deep personal regret. During her illness, they spoke frequently while she was in Umoja and Eldoret. Because she always sounded strong on the phone, he did not realise how close the end was.
"I think I'm the only family member that I didn't manage to come to see her in Nairobi and it's because I didn't expect that," he admitted.
Faith in the Future
Teresa’s belief in Bahati’s potential was a cornerstone of his early years. He admitted that her high expectations influenced how he shared his academic results. Bahati noted that she had immense hope for his success.
"Mama Mr. Sid is the one of the reasons why sijaitangaza grade yangu ya form Four, kwa sababu walikuwa wananiamini sana," Bahati said. He added that she often used him as an example for her own son, telling Mr Seed to look up to Bahati’s progress.
Support Beyond the Home
When Bahati began his music career, Teresa remained a steady presence. She witnessed his early struggles as he tried to break into the industry. Her support was not just emotional but also practical.
A Mediator in Conflict
Like any brothers, Bahati and Mr Seed had their share of disagreements. There were times when the two musicians were not on speaking terms. However, Teresa refused to let their fights affect her relationship with either of them.
She maintained a separate, loving bond with Bahati regardless of his standing with Mr Seed. Bahati recalled her words: "Bahati you are my son na alitaka kuona nikiendelea vizuri."
