The scholarships target priority Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields and are aimed at expanding access to postgraduate education, training and research in areas considered critical to Kenya's economic development.
The three universities have set different deadlines and requirements for the programmes, with some of the scholarships also providing opportunities for successful candidates to serve as Graduate Assistants.
The scholarships cover a range of postgraduate STEM disciplines, including engineering, computing, health sciences, food science and biochemistry, with successful candidates expected to contribute to the universities' teaching and research activities as Graduate Assistants where applicable.
TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF MOMBASA
TUM has advertised five Master's scholarships under the HEST Phase II project.
The scholarships are available for one student each in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building and Civil Engineering, Marine Engineering and Computer Science.
The scholarship package will cover tuition fees and research costs for the duration of study.
The scholarships are open to Kenyan citizens aged below 30 years who will also be engaged as Graduate Assistants.
The programmes funded under the initiative are scheduled to commence in August 2026.
Applicants must have attained at least a Second-Class Honours (Upper Division) degree in a relevant field from a recognised and accredited university.
TUM said successful candidates will be expected to transition to PhD studies under the scholarship programme after completing their Master's programmes.
The successful candidates will also be bonded under the applicable terms and conditions of the university and will be required to complete their studies within the prescribed period.
Applicants must be registered, or registrable, with the relevant professional or regulatory body where applicable.
Applications must be submitted online through the TUM careers portal.
The university said email and hard-copy applications would not be accepted.
Applications should be addressed to the Deputy Vice Chancellor (AFP), Technical University of Mombasa, PO Box 90420-80100. The deadline is August 18, 2026.
TUM said it does not charge applicants any fees and encouraged women, persons with disabilities and members of marginalised groups who meet the requirements to apply.
DEDAN KIMATHI UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
Dedan Kimathi University of Technology has advertised Master's and PhD scholarships under the same HEST Phase II project.
At Master's level, the university is offering two Graduate Assistant positions in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, specialising in Microelectronic Engineering.
Another two positions are available in Mechanical Engineering, specialising in Machine Tools.
The university has one position for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, specialising in Power Systems Engineering, and two positions in Computer Science.
There is also one Graduate Assistant position in Food Science and Technology and another one in Industrial Biochemistry.
This brings the number of Master's-level Graduate Assistant positions listed in the advertisement to nine.
The university has separately advertised two PhD scholarships.
One scholarship is available for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, specialising in Power Systems Engineering, while another is available for Civil and Environmental Engineering, specialising in Geotechnical Engineering.
The advertisement also lists technologist and technician positions alongside some of the Master's programmes, but these are separate from the Graduate Assistant positions.
The university said full details, including eligibility requirements and application forms, are available on its website and from the offices of the Registrar (Academic Affairs and Research) and Admissions.
Applications should reach the Registrar (Academic Affairs and Research) by August 25, 2026, at 5pm.

KISII UNIVERSITY
Kisii University has advertised 10 Master's scholarships targeting four programmes.
The university is offering two scholarships for Information Technology, three for Nursing, two for Medicine and three for Biomedical Sciences.
The scholarship package will cover tuition fees and research costs for the duration of study.
The university said the programmes will be offered at different institutions. Information Technology and Biomedical Sciences will be offered at Kisii University, Nursing at Chuka University and Medicine at Moi University.
The scholarships are open to Kenyans aged below 30 years who will also be engaged as Graduate Assistants.
The programmes are scheduled to commence in August 2026.
