Kibera-born rapper Stevo Simple Boy recently appeared on the Mic Cheque Podcast to discuss his life, music, and his journey into parenthood. During the wide-ranging interview, the "Freshi Barida" hitmaker shared a deeply personal achievement that makes him proud as a father.
The rapper revealed that his greatest sense of pride comes from proving his critics wrong. For a long time, several people on social media and in the media industry had publicly doubted his ability to father a child.
Stevo noted that these comments were often hurtful and dismissive of his manhood.
Proving the Doubters Wrong
Stevo explained that many people had written him off, claiming he did not have a future or the capacity to start a family. He told the podcast hosts that seeing his son alive and healthy is a direct answer to those who mocked him.
“Najivunia sana about being a dad juu ya zile madharau za watu walikuwa wanasema, “Ooh Stivo hawezi zalisha," Stevo said.
He expressed that the birth of his son was a "shock" to those who had talked down to him.
Meet Malik Adera
The rapper confirmed that his son is named Malik Adera. The child is currently nine months old. Stevo proudly shared that the boy bears a striking resemblance to him.
"Ananifanana weupe amechukua ya mama," he remarked. He listed several features the boy inherited from him, including his "forehead, eyes, nose, and ears". "Zote zote," he said, confirming the boy is his "mini-me."
Life as a Father
Fatherhood has brought significant changes to Stevo's daily routine. He admitted that raising a child is not easy and requires a lot of struggling and hustling. He noted that his freedom has decreased because he now has major responsibilities at home.
"Sasa ile kuwa na freedom sana hakuna saa hizi niko na responsibility," he explained. Instead of staying out late with friends, he now prefers to stay at home, write lyrics, watch movies, or play with his son.
The rapper’s comments come after a period of public friction with other media personalities. In the past, individuals such as Andrew Kibe had made disparaging remarks about Stevo. Kibe reportedly suggested that "people like him" should not reproduce.
Stevo addressed these remarks on the podcast, stating that he chooses to respond with humility rather than hate. He also mentioned that he is still living with his partner, Brenda, and they are working together to raise Malik despite previous disagreements.
