Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua addresses a roadside rally in Suswa on his way to Narok East/HANDOUTDemocracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has declared that the campaign to remove the Kenya Kwanza administration from office has begun, as he intensified his party's popularisation drive in Narok East.
Gachagua, the former Deputy President, addressed a rally in Narok East on Monday, August 10, 2026, exactly one year before the August 10, 2027 General Election.
The rally was attended by large crowds, with videos from the area showing supporters dressed in DCP colours turning up for the former Deputy President's tour.
Gachagua told supporters that the countdown to the next presidential election had entered its final year, declaring that the Opposition would use the remaining period to mobilise Kenyans for political change
“Let us listen to the ground,” Gachagua told his supporters.
“Today is August 10, 2026. Next year, a day like this, August 10, 2027, we will wake up early and send President William Ruto home.”
He said the political journey to defeat Ruto had officially started in Narok East.
“The journey to send William Ruto home has started today here in Narok East. It is one year from today,” he said.
Gachagua accused the Ruto administration of making Kenyans suffer, saying the Maasai community was among those who had experienced the challenges under the current government.
“I am very happy to come here,” he told the gathering.
The former Deputy President had earlier announced that he would engage residents and his “in-laws” in Narok County as part of his efforts to expand DCP's political footprint beyond his Mt Kenya base.
He said his journey through the region had already attracted spontaneous support from residents.
“I was stopped by Wananchi at Suswa for a meet and greet,” Gachagua said.
“I am truly delighted to see that the people are ready for positive change and new leadership – leaders who are sympathetic, reasonable, and committed to their welfare.”
His visit to Narok East came shortly after he welcomed nine
Members of the County Assembly from Kajiado County into the DCP.
The MCAs defected from Jubilee, ODM and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), in what Gachagua described as further evidence of the party's growing influence in the region.
“The journey to 100 per cent DCP in Kajiado is almost complete,” Gachagua said.
He said the MCAs did not need to be told to “listen to the ground” because they represented the electorate directly.
“I never asked the MCAs to listen to the ground; they are the ground themselves. They have told me that the ground is green,” he said.
Gachagua said the legislators had informed him that their constituents wanted them to join a political party that would listen to their concerns and aspirations.
“They have informed me that they have received clear instructions from their people to join the party that cares and listens to the aspirations of Kenyans,” he said.
The former Deputy President said DCP's expansion was gathering momentum as the country entered the final year before the 2027 election.
