Following her colourful traditional engagement ceremony, Charlene Ruto has shared a heartfelt message of gratitude with the public. The First Daughter took to social media to reflect on the event, which was held on 8 August 2026.
The ceremony, known as a Koito, took place at President William Ruto’s Intona Heritage Farm in Kilgoris, Narok County. It marked the formal dowry negotiations between the Ruto family and the family of Tanzanian entrepreneur Isaya Yunge.
A Message of Gratitude
Charlene used her Instagram platform to express her appreciation for the support she received during this significant cultural milestone. She focused her message on three key groups: her family, the local community, and her new husband-to-be.
In her post, Charlene wrote: "Grateful for my family's and community's support in my dowry negotiation and my dear husband to be @isayayunge for honouring me by asking for my hand,” she posted.

The Man of the Hour
The man who won Charlene’s heart is 36-year-old Isaya Yunge. While he is now in the Kenyan national spotlight, Yunge is already a well-established figure in the African technology sector.
He is the CEO of SomaApps Technologies. This company runs SomaApp, a mobile platform that matches students with educational funding.
A Celebration of Culture
The Koito was a high-profile affair that blended tradition with modern glamour. Guests followed a strict dress code of green, cream, and brown. Charlene wore a stylish brown dress, while Yunge opted for a matching suit.
The event was attended by various dignitaries. These included Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, and Mama Ida Odinga. Several guests arrived at the expansive farm by helicopter.
