More than 5,000 workers from Kenya’s water and sanitation sector will descend on Kericho County this week for a five-day sporting and cultural extravaganza bringing together 33 water service providers.
The 2026 Water Culture and Games Festival, organised by the Water and Sanitation Providers Association (WASPA) in partnership with the Kericho County Government and Kericho Water and Sanitation Company (Kewasco), will run from tomorrow (Monday) to Friday.
The festival, held under the theme “Developing WASH through Culture and Games,” will feature 21 sporting and cultural disciplines, promising a busy week of competition and interaction.

Football, volleyball, athletics and golf will headline the sporting programme, with participants also competing in indoor games and individual events. Choir competitions and traditional cultural performances will add a cultural dimension to the festival.
The event is expected to turn Kericho into a hub of sporting activity as employees from water utilities and other sector institutions battle for honours while strengthening professional ties.
WASPA chairman Thomas Odongo said the high turnout reflected the growing unity and solidarity within the water sector.
“This year’s festival brings together over 5,000 participants from 33 water utilities and sector institutions across Kenya,” Odongo said.
He said the increasing participation demonstrated the sector’s commitment to collaboration in delivering essential services to communities.
WASPA chief executive officer Anthony Njaramba said the festival would extend beyond sporting competition by creating opportunities for participants to network, benchmark their operations and exchange ideas.
“The festival is not only a sporting event but also a platform for networking, benchmarking and sharing innovative solutions,” Njaramba said.
The festival will officially be opened at Kericho Teachers’ College by Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Muriithi.
Kericho Governor Eric Mutai welcomed the delegates, saying the festival would promote sports, culture, innovation and professional networking in the county.
Besides the competitions, sponsors, exhibitors and development partners will have an opportunity to engage with professionals and key decision-makers in the water sector.
Organisers say the festival will also promote employee wellness, teamwork and collaboration while providing a platform for participants to share ideas and solutions aimed at improving water and sanitation services across the country.
