A middle-aged man has been killed while scores are nursing life-threatening injuries in various hospitals across Kilgoris, Migori and Kisii counties, following fresh clashes along the Nkaararo–Enoretet border in Transmara, Narok County.

The clashes had entered their third day on Sunday, officials said.

Security agencies were sent to the area to tame further attacks.

Police said investigations had been launched into the clashes as a security operation got underway along the volatile border.

Some of the victims receiving treatment at various hospitals have accused the government of failing to act decisively to end the perennial land feud pitting the Irwashi Nkishu and Isiria communities.

They said the latest violence is a grim reminder of the urgency to resolve the longstanding dispute before more lives are lost.

Security teams were sent to the area to investigate the clashes in a bid to establish the motive and way forward.

Such clashes are common in the area as clans fight over resources.

Elsewhere, a 65-year-old woman was killed in a suspected panga attack at Runogone in Imenti East, Meru County, on Friday night.

Police said Evelyn Nukiri Mbaabu was preparing supper at her home at about 7.20pm when an unidentified man entered the compound and approached the house.

According to police, the suspect found the main door locked and went around to the kitchen window, where he asked for drinking water.

The deceased reportedly instructed her grandchild to go to the living room and serve the man a cup of tea.

While in the living room, the grandchild heard Mbaabu screaming for help and rushed to the kitchen, where he found her lying in a pool of blood.

The suspect allegedly attacked the grandchild with a panga, cutting his right hand, before fleeing from the compound after the victim raised an alarm.

Neighbours responded to the screams and rushed Mbaabu to Grace Park Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police later examined the body and established that she had deep visible cuts on the forehead, the back of the head and the right hand.

The body was moved to Cool Breeze Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Police have launched investigations to establish the identity and motive of the attacker.
