The Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna-led Linda Mwananchi movement has unveiled its programme for Sunday, August 9, as it intensifies grassroots mobilisation in Kakamega County ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The movement will begin the day with a church service at the ACK Cathedral in Mumias Town before embarking on a political tour that will take its leaders through four constituencies in Kakamega County.
The Sunday programme will start with the church service at the ACK Cathedral Mumias Town from 8am to 9.30am.
The political engagements will begin at 10am in Mumias West Constituency, where the team is scheduled to interact with residents in Mumias Town.
At noon, the Linda Mwananchi caravan will move to Navakholo Constituency for an engagement at Navakholo Market.
The leaders will then proceed to Malava Constituency at 2pm before heading to Lugari Constituency at 4pm. The tour will culminate in Lumakanda, which is expected to be the final stop of the day.
The Kakamega tour comes as Linda Mwananchi steps up its grassroots mobilisation in Western Kenya, seeking to consolidate support and expand its political influence ahead of the August 2027 elections.
The movement has in recent months presented itself as a people-centred political platform, with its leaders holding public rallies and community engagements in different parts of the country.
Its activities have also increasingly taken it beyond the traditional political structures of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), as Sifuna and his allies seek to establish a wider grassroots network ahead of the next elections.
The Kakamega campaign follows two days of intensive mobilisation in Western Kenya.
On Friday, August 7, Linda Mwananchi toured parts of Busia County, making stops in Bumala, Murumba, Butula and Nambale.
The leaders used the engagements to interact with residents and popularise the movement's agenda, drawing crowds at various centres along the route.
The caravan moved into Kakamega County on Saturday, August 8, for another round of meet-the-people engagements.
The team traversed Sabatia, Isulu and Shinyalu before culminating the day with a major rally in Kakamega town.
The Saturday tour brought Sifuna together with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale as the leaders sought to strengthen the movement's presence in the region.
At Sabatia, Sifuna made a direct appeal to Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya for his support and blessing as he pursues a broader political role ahead of the 2027 elections.
The appeal is significant given Oparanya's long-standing influence in Western Kenya and his position as a senior figure within ODM.
The continued presence of Linda Mwananchi in the region comes at a time when Western Kenya is emerging as a key political battleground ahead of the 2027 elections.
The region has traditionally been an important support base for ODM, while President William Ruto's administration has intensified efforts to strengthen its political foothold through the broad-based government arrangement.
Sifuna and his allies have been using the Linda Mwananchi platform to rally residents around what they describe as a people-driven political agenda, while criticising attempts by established political formations to control the region's political direction.
