Detectives in Nairobi are investigating the suspected murder of a 35-year-old boda boda rider whose body was found outside a shop in Riruta, Dagoretti Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Thursday by a resident who told police she discovered the body while opening her café in the morning.
Police responded to the scene and found the body of a man identified as Selvin Omete, a bodaboda rider who operated from Ngina Road Stage.
Police said the deceased had sustained severe head injuries and was bleeding profusely, raising suspicion that he may have been fatally assaulted.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations have been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible. No arrests had been reported by Thursday evening.
Meanwhile, police in Embu County have launched investigations into the suspected murder of an unidentified man whose body was discovered along the banks of River Cevi in Ngeniari Village, Embu East Sub-County.
According to police, the incident was reported on Thursday.
Police visited the scene and established that the deceased was an unidentified male adult believed to be about 40 years old.
The body was found lying beside River Cevi, with the head partially submerged in the water. Investigators observed an injury at the back of the head, while the man’s left ear had been cut and one tooth was missing, suggesting he may have been assaulted before his death.
Crime scene personnel from the DCI processed the scene before the body was moved to Runyenjes Level 4 Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police have commenced investigations to establish the identity of the deceased, the circumstances surrounding his death and those responsible. No arrests had been made by Thursday evening.
Elsewhere, two families in Kibwezi, Makueni County, have laid their loved ones to rest following an exhumation exercise to correct a mortuary mix-up that resulted in the wrong body being buried.
The exercise was conducted on Tuesday at Nzembete Village in Masongaleni Location, following an identification error at Kibwezi Funeral Home.
According to police, the mix-up occurred on July 18, 2026, when the family of one deceased person mistakenly buried the body of another relative due to an identification error at the mortuary.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kibwezi, public health officials, mortuary attendants and members of both affected families supervised the exhumation.
Investigators established that the remains of 95-year-old Andrew Mutua Kasimu had been mistakenly buried instead of those of 96-year-old Tom Nzioka.
Following the exhumation, the remains were taken to Kibwezi Mortuary before each family collected the correct body and proceeded with the burial.
Police said the exercise was conducted peacefully without any incident and that no further police action was required.
