Detectives have arrested a murder suspect who had been on the run for more than a month following the death of his younger brother, whom police accuse him of setting on fire during a domestic dispute.
The suspect was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Imenti North at an apartment in Ruiru, Kiambu County, on Wednesday.
Police said the arrest is linked to the death of Alvin Muguna Kirimi, who sustained severe burn injuries on July 1 after the suspect allegedly poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.
The victim later died while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Burn Unit at Kenyatta National Hospital.
According to investigators, the suspect went into hiding after the incident and had been evading arrest until detectives tracked him to his hideout in Ruiru.
During the arrest, officers recovered a licensed Ceska CZ pistol loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
Police also recovered an additional 75 rounds of 9mm ammunition from the suspect's possession.
Investigators confirmed the suspect is a licensed civilian firearm holder and that his firearm certificate was also recovered.
The suspect remains in lawful police custody and is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court on a murder charge.
In a separate incident, police in Kiambu County have launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 28-year-old woman whose body was found inside her rented house in the Mumbi area of Githurai Sub-County.
The incident was reported on Tuesday night by a man who alerted police to the suspected killing.
Police visited the scene and found the body of Tabitha Mwikali lying in a pool of blood on her bed.
Preliminary investigations indicate the deceased sustained severe head injuries, believed to have been inflicted using a hammer, which detectives recovered at the scene as an exhibit.
Police also established that the woman had suffered a deep cut to the neck.
Crime scene officers from Juja processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to General Kago Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said the motive for the killing has not been established and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest those responsible.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian national died while undergoing treatment several days after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest by his girlfriend in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
The deceased, identified as Antony Okechuku, 39, had initially reported to police that he was attacked on the morning of July 28 in the Real Junior area of Mlolongo Township after visiting his girlfriend.
According to the initial report, Okechuku sustained a stab wound to the left side of his chest after he was allegedly attacked by the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed.
He was first rushed to Lifecare Hospital in Mlolongo before being referred to Kitengela Medical Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.
Police said a fellow Nigerian national reported on Monday night that Okechuku had succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
The body was moved to Shalom Mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have reclassified the case as murder and are continuing investigations, including efforts to trace the woman alleged to have been involved in the fatal stabbing.
