
Detectives are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old construction worker whose body was found in an iron sheet structure in Isinya, Kajiado County.
The body of Benjamin Kingoo Mumdu, a casual labourer, was discovered behind World Serve Organisations on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigations established that the deceased had multiple panga injuries, including deep cuts to the head, right hand and right leg, indicating he had been violently attacked.
Crime scene investigators processed and documented the scene before the body was moved to Kitengela Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.
In a separate incident, a man died after a fire destroyed his semi-permanent house in Mwereru Village, Imenti Central Sub-County, Meru County, in the early hours of Tuesday.
The fire broke out at about 4 a.m. and was extinguished by the Meru County Fire Brigade at around 5.30 a.m.
Police officers visited the scene and found that the house, belonging to Stanley Muriungi, had been destroyed.
According to investigators, Muriungi was the only occupant of the house when the fire started.
During processing of the scene, officers recovered a charred human body from the burnt house.
Family members said they believe the remains are those of Muriungi, who has not been seen since the blaze.
The value of the destroyed property has not been established, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The scene was documented by detectives before the body was moved to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting formal identification and a post-mortem examination.
In another incident, police are investigating the alleged murder of an 86-year-old woman by her grandson following a suspected dispute over family land in Tongaren Sub-County, Bungoma County.
The incident was reported on Tuesday morning after the elderly woman's body was discovered in her house at Mutoto Village, police said.
Police officers visited the scene and identified the deceased as Turutea Atiang'a Barasa.
Investigators found her lying lifeless on a bed with severe facial injuries and a neck injury consistent with a violent assault.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly attacked his grandmother during a dispute over land inherited from his late father.
Police said the suspect had travelled from Matisi in Kitale on Saturday, August 1, to discuss the family land with the deceased.
After the alleged attack, the suspect is reported to have stolen several chickens from the homestead before fleeing to an unknown destination.
No murder weapon was recovered at the scene.
The body was moved to Naitiri Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
