National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has called for tougher action against illegal sugar imports, saying they continue to undermine local farmers and millers. Speaking during a meeting with officials of the Kenya National Federation of Sugarcane Farmers, Wetang'ula urged the federation to champion policies that protect the local sugar industry. He said ongoing reforms should enable Kenya to meet its domestic sugar demand within a year.
