Mwaruma was elected unanimously to replace Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who had chaired the panel since 2022.
Osotsi was removed from the position last week following a vote of no confidence. He was later dropped from the committee.

Nominated Senator Beth Syengo was elected vice chairperson of the committee.
She replaces Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, who was removed from the panel in changes approved by the House earlier this week.
Mwaruma thanked committee members for electing him to the position.
"I want to promise you that I have been around for some time and will operate an open-door policy. I urge you to attend meetings because we have a lot of work to do," Mwaruma said in his inaugural speech.
