The political rivalry between Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa and his predecessor, Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, has intensified. Barasa challenged Oparanya to focus on uniting the Western Kenya voting bloc before pursuing the position of presidential running mate. He said regional unity should take priority, arguing that a united Western voting bloc would strengthen the region’s bargaining power in national politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.
