Amina Mohamed Shares Tribute to Late Husband

Former Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has shared a heartfelt tribute in memory of her late husband, Khalid Hossain Ahmed, marking five years since his passing.

The tribute, posted on her X account, was notably her first post on the platform since November 2025, when she had shared a photograph of herself and Khalid without any caption. This time, she found the words.

"It seems impossible that I have learned to count time without you," Amina wrote in the tribute, which she signed simply as Amina.

"Some days it feels as though you have only just stepped out of the room and will be back any minute, wearing that familiar smile, asking about everyone's day, making each of us feel as though nothing in the world mattered more than being together."

Remembering Khalid Hossain Ahmed

Khalid passed away on Thursday, July 29 2021, after receiving treatment for a brief illness at Karen Hospital in Nairobi.

Unlike his high-profile wife, he had deliberately stayed out of the public eye, devoting himself to his family and private business ventures.

Her latest tribute focused on love, remembrance and the enduring impact Khalid had on her life and that of their family.

She described the particular ache of everyday absence, adding:

"Five years have passed since I last held your hand, heard your voice, or laughed with you. Yet there has not been a single day when I have not spoken to you in my heart."

Reflecting on what she misses most, Amina wrote:

"It is impossible to answer, because I miss everything." She closed the tribute with quiet conviction: "You were our greatest blessing. You still are."

A distinguished public career

Amina Mohamed is one of Kenya's most accomplished diplomats and public servants. Over the years, she has served in several senior government positions, including Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Secretary for Education, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Heritage and Culture, and Attorney General in an acting capacity.

She has also represented Kenya in numerous international forums and previously chaired the World Trade Organisation (WTO) General Council, becoming one of the country's most recognised diplomats on the global stage.
