The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has declared support for Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna's presidential bid in next year's general election.
LDP secretary general Denis Kodhe on Saturday said the party had resolved to back Sifuna, describing him as a leader with integrity.
Kodhe said the time was ripe for Western to produce the country's next president and dismissed claims that Sifuna lacked the financial resources to mount a competitive campaign.
"Sifuna is God-sent to rescue Kenyans and as a party, we will not waste this moment. Sifuna is not tainted with corruption and that is why we have chosen to stand with him," Kodhe said.
He spoke in Mumias town after a meeting with delegates from the Western region.
Kodhe said Sifuna had demonstrated leadership not only for the Mulembe nation but also for the entire country.
He urged Kenyans to ensure every eligible voter registers ahead of the 2027 polls to participate in choosing the country's next leadership.
LDP Western regional coordinator Suleiman Sumba, who attended the meeting in Mumias, said Sifuna's greatest political asset was public support.
"Those roaming around saying Sifuna lacks resources had their chance and failed to use them to ascend to national leadership. They should not think that no Luhya can become president just because they failed," Sumba said.
He said he would spearhead vote mobilisation for Sifuna across Western Kenya while urging the senator to focus on building political networks and partnerships in other parts of the country.
The LDP support came after Sifuna held a major political rally at Posta Grounds in Bungoma on Sunday as he stepped up his political engagements in the Western region.
